Opinion: An Open Letter to the Middle East

October 7, 2024

On this solemn anniversary of the horrific attack against Israel on October 7, 2023, The New Iran, a member of the Iranian opposition and allied groups, unequivocally condemns the dark and hateful forces whose sole aim is to sow death and destruction. We stand in solidarity with the people of Israel, affirm your right to exist, and support your use of all legitimate means to ensure your self-preservation.

The brutal forces responsible for the murder of over 1,200 Israeli citizens and the taking of 254 hostages on that fateful day are the same forces that have inflicted decades of suffering on the Iranian people. Hamas, Hezbollah, the Houthis, ISIS, the Taliban, Boko Haram, and countless other violent groups operating under the banner of Islam are all offshoots of the 1979 revolution led by Ayatollah Khomeini. The world entered an era of civilizational conflict in the aftermath of that revolution, a turning point in history that can only be rectified by the dismantling of the Islamic Republic.

Today, the people of Iran are among the most pro-Western populations in the Middle East and share a deep sympathy with the people of Israel—sometimes more so than even some Western nations. We recognize that Iranians and Israelis face a common enemy, and we believe history is on our side. We look forward to the day when, after the fall of the Islamic Republic, Iran, and Israel will forge strong bonds in commerce, technology, and science, and enjoy rich cultural exchanges.

We remain hopeful for a future that brings peace and progress at the least possible cost to our peoples.
