Lebanon To Receive Natural Gas From Egypt via Jordan, Syria

Lebanon is set to receive natural gas from Egypt that will be piped to Lebanon through Jordan and Syria, in an effort to help Lebanon address its debilitating power shortage. The plan was agreed to by the governments of the four countries on Wednesday.

Lebanon’s twin economic and political crises have led to the power shortage as the country has been unable to import fuel due to the depreciation of its currency by 90%.

Lebanon is working with the World Bank to obtain the financing to pay for the gas, energy minister Raymond Ghajar said, according to Reuters.

The terrorist group Hizbullah last week announced that it is bringing fuel oil from Iran in to Lebanon, possibly via Syria, in defiance of US sanctions, in order to relieve the power pressure.
