Japan on Monday is expected to lift the state of emergency in Tokyo and four other prefectures. Prime Minister Shinzo Abe is expected to give his final approval at a press conference later in the day.
The White House on Sunday announced a travel ban to the United States for non-citizens who have been in Brazil during the previous 14 days. Coronavirus infections and deaths in the Latin American country have skyrocketed, and it now trails only the US in total cases. As of Monday, the number of confirmed cases there stood at 363,211, with 22,666 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker.
Mexican President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador on Sunday said that COVID-19 could cost the country up to one million jobs, but promised that the government would create two million more.
The Israeli cabinet on Sunday limited the authority of the Shin Bet internal security service to track people infected with the coronavirus via their cellphone. The cabinet said the surveillance measure could still be used in “special cases” where locations cannot be identified using other methods.
