3 Explosives-Laden Drones Attack Near Erbil, US Consulate Site

Three drones laden with explosives attacked near the northern Iraqi city of Erbil, the capital of Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, where the United States is building a consulate. The drones hit two civilian homes in the village, located a few miles from the construction site of the consulate building, in the early Saturday attack. One of the drones did not explode.

The US consulate in a tweet condemned the attack near the capital of Iraq’s northern Kurdistan region, saying “this attack represents a clear violation of Iraqi sovereignty.”

It is the 43rd attack against US interests in Iraq this year. They have previously been blamed on pro-Iran militias and appear to be aimed at getting the United States to remove all its troops from the country.
