Algeria Reaffirms Support for Lebanon During Diplomatic Talks

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf met with Lebanese President Joseph Aoun on Sunday in Beirut, reaffirming Algeria’s commitment to supporting Lebanon through its ongoing economic and political challenges. Attaf conveyed Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune’s message of solidarity, emphasizing the importance of strengthening ties between the two nations.

“Lebanon is going through a delicate phase in its history, working to strengthen its institutions, revive its economy, and ensure security. In all these phases, Algeria remains firmly by Lebanon’s side,” Attaf said, according to a statement from Lebanon’s presidency.

Discussions between Attaf and Aoun centered on boosting economic cooperation and reviving the joint Lebanese-Algerian business council, which aims to enhance trade and investment between the two countries. Algeria also reiterated its diplomatic backing for Lebanon at the United Nations, advocating for Lebanese interests in the Security Council and other international platforms.

The meeting underscored Algeria’s long-standing support for Lebanon, which has been grappling with economic instability, political deadlock, and security concerns. Since 2019, Lebanon has faced a financial crisis that has led to widespread inflation, currency devaluation, and public unrest.

Aoun expressed gratitude for Algeria’s ongoing assistance and Tebboune’s invitation to visit Algiers, reaffirming Lebanon’s desire to expand cooperation across multiple sectors.
