Algerian Army Chief Promises to Meet People’s Demands

Algerian military Chief of Staff Lt.-Gen. Ahmed Gaed Salah confirmed on Wednesday that the country’s military would guarantee the people their demands for radical political and economic change. Promising them an independent committee to ensure fair elections, he stressed the support of the army for the transitional period ahead. Salah reminded the people that the critical phase the country was going through required awareness and patience on their part. He also stated that the army would be able to monitor the transitional period in light of “mutual trust” between the military and the people. He also accused unnamed foreign parties of trying destabilize the country, adding that major corruption cases would be prosecuted.
