Ambush Seriously Wounds Reservist Officer in Northern Gaza, IDF Retaliates With Strikes
An Israel Defense Forces reservist officer was seriously wounded overnight after Palestinian gunmen opened fire during activity in the northern Gaza Strip, the military said Wednesday, describing the attack as a “blatant violation” of the ceasefire.
The officer was evacuated to a hospital for treatment, and his family was informed, the IDF said.

Troops from the Alexandroni Brigade were operating along the Israeli side of the Yellow Line, a boundary that separates areas under Israeli control from those held by Hamas. According to the military, several attackers fired on the soldiers from across the line during the operation.
In response, the IDF carried out a series of strikes across Gaza. Palestinian media outlets reported that around 20 people were killed following the strikes, though those figures were not independently confirmed by the military.
The exchange of fire came only days after Israel reopened the Rafah Crossing between Gaza and Egypt. The crossing serves as the only route out of Gaza that does not pass through Israeli territory and had been closed for an extended period.
A ceasefire has been in place since last October, with both Israel and Hamas repeatedly accusing the other of breaching the terms of the fragile truce.
