At Least 11 Climbers Dead in Mountains North of Tehran

At least 11 mountain climbers have died and several are missing on hiking trails in the mountains north of Tehran. The deaths reported on Saturday are a result of heavy snow and wind in the area, according to reports.

Tehran is located at the bottom of the Alborz mountain range. Several climbers remained unaccounted for on at least three popular hiking trails as of Saturday, according to an Iranian Red Crescent official quoted by the IRIB state broadcaster, Reuters reported.

Meanwhile, an Iranian transport ship capsized in the Gulf on Friday. Iranian naval search and rescue, joined by the search and rescue of other countries, were looking for the transport’s seven crew members, according to reports.
