Smuggling of 14 Million Amphetamine Pills into Saudi Arabia Foiled

Saudi Arabian security forces foiled an attempt to smuggle some 14.4 million amphetamine pills from Lebanon into the kingdom.

The pills discovered on Saturday were hidden in a shipment of iron sheets entering Saudi Arabia from Lebanon. They were seized by the General Directorate of Narcotics Control in coordination with the General Authority for Zakat and Tax and customs at Jeddah Islamic Port, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

One Saudi national has been arrested in connection with the illegal smuggling attempt.

Saudi officials banned the imports of fruit and vegetables in April after tends of thousands of narcotics pills were discovered hidden in a shipment of pomegranates.
