Biden Administration Top Official Hady Amr Arrives in Israel
US President Joe Biden’s top official on the Israel-Palestinian conflict arrived in Israel, where he will meet with Israelis and Palestinians from the business and private sector as well as government officials in Israel and in the Palestinian Authority.
US Deputy Assistant Secretary of Israeli and Palestinian Affairs Hady Amr arrived in Israel on Monday. He is scheduled to hold meetings in Jerusalem and Ramallah, as well as Bethlehem and Tel Aviv.
He is expected to discuss with Israeli officials the reconstruction of the Gaza Strip and the new UN mechanism to transfer money to Gaza without it falling in to the hands of Hamas, Axios reported. He also likely will want to discuss the demolition of the homes of Palestinians accused of killing Israelis, in the wake of the destruction of the West Bank home of Muntasar Shalabi, who was convicted of killing a yeshiva student at a bus stop in the West Bank, who also holds US citizenship.
In Ramallah he is expected to bring up the killing of political activist Nizar Banat by Palestinian Authority security forced hours after his arrest last month.
