Five Injured in Israeli Strike as Lebanon Demands Ceasefire Compliance

Five people were injured in an Israeli drone strike on the southern Lebanese town of Majdal Selm on Wednesday, according to Lebanon’s Health Ministry. The attack comes amid escalating tensions despite a ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hezbollah.

A day earlier, Israeli airstrikes on the town of Nabatieh wounded 36 people. The Israeli military said the strikes targeted Hezbollah vehicles transporting weapons on the outskirts of the town. Meanwhile, Israeli forces detained three individuals in the border town of Maroun al-Ras, Lebanese state news agency NNA reported.

Despite a ceasefire agreement reached in late November, Israel has continued operations in southern Lebanon, citing security concerns. The agreement, which initially set a 60-day timeline for an Israeli troop withdrawal, has now been extended until February 18. However, Israel maintains that it will not withdraw entirely and will continue to act against perceived threats.

Following the latest strikes, senior Hezbollah official Mohammad Raad defended Hezbollah’s stance, calling the Lebanese people’s right to resist Israeli attacks a “sacred and legitimate right” to be exercised when necessary for national security.

Lebanese caretaker Prime Minister Najib Mikati on Tuesday urged the US to pressure Israel into fully implementing the ceasefire, in line with international law. He also thanked the International Red Cross for securing the release of nine Lebanese detainees from Israeli custody.
