Hamas Claims Barrage on Israeli Cities in Retaliation for ‘Massacres’ in Gaza

Hamas fired a salvo of rockets at Israel’s southern cities on Sunday, provoking fresh violence in the region. According to Israel’s military, around ten projectiles were launched, the majority of which were intercepted. However, Channel 12 reported at least one direct hit in the southern city of Ashkelon.

Israeli emergency services said one person sustained shrapnel injuries, and first responders rushed to multiple impact sites. Footage disseminated by emergency crews showed vehicle damage, scattered debris, and shattered glass along city streets. Ashkelon’s Barzilai Hospital said at least a dozen people were treated for minor injuries following the rocket attack.

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, en route to Washington to meet with US President Donald Trump, conferred with Defense Minister Israel Katz regarding the situation. Netanyahu’s office released a statement indicating his authorization for a “vigorous” response and the continuation of Israel’s broad military campaign against Hamas.

After the rocket bombardment, the Israeli army issued an evacuation order warning residents in parts of Deir Al-Balah to leave the area “before the attack.” A short time later, the military announced that it had struck the rocket launcher presumed to have fired the earlier projectiles. Gazan health officials claimed at least 39 people were killed by Israeli military airstrikes.
