Hamas Signals Willingness To Transfer Gaza Control to Palestinian Authority Under Egyptian Pressure

Hamas has expressed willingness to relinquish control of the Gaza Strip to the Palestinian Authority, according to sources cited by Sky News Arabia. The move, reportedly conveyed in a letter to the Palestine Liberation Organization, comes after strong pressure from Egypt during negotiations in Cairo. Hamas has stipulated that its government employees be either integrated into the new administration or allowed to retire with guaranteed salary payments.

Meanwhile, Israel is preparing for further negotiations on a ceasefire and hostage exchange deal. A delegation led by Brig. Gen. (res.) Gal Hirsch, Israel’s coordinator for hostages and missing persons, and a senior Shin Bet official traveled to Cairo on Monday to discuss the next phase of the agreement. The talks will focus on securing the release of six remaining Israeli hostages still believed to be alive.

US special envoy Steve Witkoff indicated that discussions on the next stage of the ceasefire and prisoner exchange would continue this week. He described recent conversations with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, and Egyptian intelligence chief Hassan Rashad as “positive and constructive.” Qatar, Egypt, and the US have played key roles in mediating the deal.

The negotiations are taking place as Israel’s security cabinet prepares to deliberate on the next steps. US Secretary of State Marco Rubio emphasized in a joint press conference with Netanyahu on Sunday that Hamas should not remain in power in Gaza.
