Israel Deports French-Palestinian Lawyer Over Terror Claims
Israel has deported a Palestinian lawyer with French citizenship to France, claiming he was active in a terrorist organization.
Salah Hamouri, 37, had been held in administrative detention from March until December 1 for alleged links to the Palestinian Front for the Liberation of Palestine, but had not been charged or convicted over these allegations.
He was previously jailed for seven years over a plot to assassinate the late Sephardi chief rabbi and elder of the Haredi Shas party Ovadia Yosef, but was released in 2011 as part of prisoner swap with Hamas for captive Israeli soldier Gilad Shalit.
Hamouri was born in and is a resident of Jerusalem, but does not have Israeli citizenship. His right to reside in Jerusalem has also been stripped by Israel. His campaign branded the decision to deport him a “war crime” that violates international law.
