Israel’s Ground Operations in Lebanon Intensify, Iran Warns Against Further Attacks
On Tuesday, Israel’s military announced the expansion of its ground operations into southwest Lebanon, increasing pressure on Hezbollah, the Iran-backed group. This move marks an escalation of the conflict that began a year ago, following the Hamas-led attack on southern Israel, which has since spiraled into a broader regional conflict.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) stated that they were conducting “localized, targeted operations” in Lebanon’s southwest, following similar operations in the southeast border area. The expansion of Israel’s campaign follows weeks of cross-border hostilities and aerial strikes on Hezbollah positions, including the killing of senior Hezbollah figures.

The Israeli military confirmed that Suhail Hussein Husseini, a senior Hezbollah official responsible for budgeting and logistics, was killed during airstrikes on Beirut’s southern suburbs. The assassination follows Israel’s targeted killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah late last month, dealing a significant blow to the group.
Despite calls for restraint by the United Nations, including pleas from the UN Special Coordinator for Lebanon and the head of its peacekeeping mission, the conflict shows no signs of de-escalating. “The near-daily exchanges of fire have escalated into a relentless military campaign whose humanitarian impact is nothing short of catastrophic,” the UN said in a joint statement.
Regional tensions continue to rise, with Iran warning Israel on Tuesday against any further attacks, just a week after Tehran launched a barrage of missiles at Israeli military installations. Iranian Foreign Minister Abbas Araqchi warned that any Israeli strike on Iran’s infrastructure would be met with swift retaliation.
