Rocket Fired on Iraqi Base Hosting US Troops

A rocket was fired on an Iraqi air base where American troops are housed, AFP reported. The attack on the Ain Assad air base on Sunday is one of many recent attacks that the US blames on militias backed by Iran.

The last attack on two Iraqi bases hosting US troops came less than two weeks ago. Since the beginning of the year, there have been a total of 43 attacks targeting the US embassy in Baghdad, Iraqi bases housing US troops or Iraqi convoys, according to the AFP.

Some 2,500 US troops remain in Iraq as part of an international coalition of troops working to prevent the rise of The Islamic State.

The US State Department has offered a reward of up to $3 million “for information on planned attacks or past ones against American diplomatic installations.”
