Islamic State Claims Responsibility for Sri Lanka Easter Sunday Terror Attacks

The Islamic State terror group claimed responsibility for the coordinated Easter Sunday attacks on churches and luxury hotels in Sri Lanka. The death toll of the massacres continued to rise Tuesday to at least 310 people, with some 500 others injured. A government minister previously claimed the seven suicide bombers that perpetrated the attacks were members of the domestic terrorist organization National Thowfeek Jamaath, which has links to foreign networks. Colombo reportedly received intelligence warnings earlier this month that churches could be targeted, but it remains unclear whether any preventative measures were taken. Tuesday has been declared a national day of mourning in Sri Lanka, as the funerals of some victims started being held.
