Turkey, Greece Agree To Improve Ties Following High-level Meeting

Turkey and Greece have agreed to improve their relationship, following a meeting on Sunday between Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan and Greek Prime Minister Kyriakos Mitsotakis in Istanbul.

“Despite the disagreements between Turkey and Greece, it was agreed at the meeting to keep communication channels open and to improve bilateral relations,” according to a statement issued after the meeting by the Turkish presidency, Reuters reported.

The two leaders discussed bilateral and international relations and the effects of the Russian invasion of Ukraine on the region. The statement said that both Turkey and Greece have a role to play in assisting with the security situation in Europe in the wake of Russia’s war on Ukraine and that the region will benefit from their cooperation.

Last week, Turkey, which shares a maritime border on the Black Sea with both Russia and Ukraine, hosted both countries’ foreign ministers for trilateral talks on the sidelines of a diplomatic forum in Antalya, a city in southern Turkey.
