2 Chinese Nationals Killed in Karachi Terrorist Attack, BLA Claims Responsibility
Two Chinese nationals were among three people killed and 10 others injured in a “terrorist attack” near the airport in Pakistan’s southern port city of Karachi late Sunday night. This information was confirmed by both the Chinese Embassy and local officials on Monday.
The Baloch Liberation Army (BLA), a separatist group, claimed responsibility for the attack in a statement sent to media outlets. The group said it used a vehicle-borne improvised explosive device (VBIED) to target Chinese nationals.
Dr. Sumaiya Syed, the chief surgeon of Karachi Police, told The Media Line, “We received the bodies of two Chinese nationals and the mutilated remains of an unidentified individual. Autopsies have been conducted on all three.”
The Chinese Embassy in Pakistan confirmed that two Chinese nationals were killed and one was injured. In a statement, the embassy said it is working with Pakistani authorities to manage the aftermath. The attack targeted a Port Qasim Electric Power Company convoy near the airport.

In their official response, the Chinese Embassy and Consulate General strongly condemned the attack, expressing deep sympathy for the victims and their families from both countries. The statement also confirmed that in addition to the Chinese casualties, several Pakistani citizens were injured.
The embassy called on Pakistani authorities to “thoroughly investigate the attack and severely punish the perpetrators” while urging practical measures to ensure the safety of Chinese citizens, businesses, and projects in Pakistan. Chinese nationals and businesses were advised to heighten their security protocols and remain vigilant.
China is a key investor in Pakistan, contributing more than $65 billion to projects under the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC), including infrastructure, road, and development initiatives.
Despite the attack, Pakistan’s Civil Aviation Authority confirmed that flights from Karachi airport operate normally. Authorities are investigating the explosion site.
In an emailed statement, the Baloch Liberation Army claimed responsibility for the attack, describing it as a suicide bombing. The group has a history of targeting Chinese nationals in Pakistan.
Rescue officials reported that the explosion caused several nearby vehicles to catch fire, damaging police vehicles and a rickshaw in the vicinity.
The Pakistani Foreign Office condemned the attack, stating that the country’s security and law enforcement agencies are working to apprehend those responsible. The Foreign Office also reaffirmed Pakistan’s commitment to protecting Chinese nationals and development projects in the country, pledging continued cooperation with China to combat terrorism.
Local police and law enforcement agencies have comprehensively investigated the incident.
