At Least 11 People Killed in Massive Fire in Damascus Mall
At least 11 people died in a massive fire in a shopping mall in the Syrian capital, Damascus. The fire broke out early on Tuesday morning in the La Miranda Mall, a six-story building. Many of those killed were security guards or staff who were on duty overnight in the building. Four people were rescued from the rubble of the fire, the SANA state media outlet reported. The cause of the fire has not been reported. At least 20 fire engines were required to put out the flames, an effort which took about four hours, according to reports. The fire broke out on the top floor and quicky spread through the whole building, causing “extensive material damage,” according to Syria’s interior ministry.
