Israeli PM Naftali Bennett, US House Speaker Nancy Pelosi Discuss Iran Nuclear Threat in Jerusalem
Israel’s Prime Minister Naftali Bennett met on Thursday morning with the Speaker of the US House of Representatives Nancy Pelosi at his office in Jerusalem. Bennett “stressed the warm ties between Israel and the US and the importance of bipartisan support for Israel,” according to a statement from his office. Bennett and Pelosi discussed the Iranian nuclear issue and other strategic challenges for Israel. During the meeting, Bennett thanked Pelosi for her support in advancing US funding for the Iron Dome missile defense system and emphasized the importance of completing the process as soon as possible. Pelosi is leading a delegation of Democratic congressmen, including Reps. Ted Deutch, Bill Keating, Ro Khanna, Andy Kim, Barbara Lee, Adam Schiff and Eric Swalwell. On Wednesday during an address at the Knesset, Pelosi called the establishment of the State of Israel the “greatest political achievement of the 20th century.” The delegation was scheduled to meet with senior Israeli officials and to travel to Ramallah in the West Bank to meet with Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas.
