Jordanian Army Shoots Down Drone Over National Territory

Jordanian military forces intercepted and downed a drone attempting to enter the country’s airspace, the state-run Petra news agency reported on Tuesday. The army did not specify the drone’s origin. The kingdom borders with Syria, Iraq, and the West Bank—all regions where various armed groups, including Iranian proxies, are active—as well as Israel and Saudi Arabia.

According to the official military statement, “The border guard forces … shot it [the drone] down and it was transferred to the specialized authorities.” The Jordanian military emphasized its readiness to confront any potential threats along its borders, vowing a firm response to such incidents.

This event follows a series of recent security developments in the region. Last April, Jordan’s military successfully shot down Iranian drones en route to Israel. Earlier this month, a Jordanian gunman was killed after he opened fire at the Allenby Bridge crossing between Jordan and the Israeli-occupied West Bank, resulting in the deaths of three Israelis.

The downing of the drone occurred as tensions in the region continue to escalate, with Lebanon’s Hezbollah accusing Israel of detonating explosives in Lebanon, causing significant casualties, including the death of several individuals and injuries to nearly 3,000 people, among them Iran’s ambassador to Beirut.
