Netanyahu’s Congress Speech: High on Rhetoric, Low on Substance

Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s recent address to the US Congress was filled with applause and delivered with notable passion, yet it notably lacked substantive policy proposals, leaving much to be desired in terms of practical outcomes. The speech effectively reinforced existing support for Israel but failed to chart new directions or offer solutions to critical issues such as the ongoing conflict in Gaza and escalating tensions with Iran.

Critics, including Michael Koplow from the Israel Policy Forum, pointed out that the address, while rich in rhetoric, was substantially empty of concrete accomplishments. The speech appeared to serve more as an exercise in legacy polishing for Netanyahu than a platform for advancing any tangible diplomatic or policy initiatives.

In her analysis, Maayan Hoffman from The Media Line highlighted these shortcomings, noting that while Netanyahu succeeded in delivering a strong narrative about Israel’s challenges and triumphs, he fell short of using this pivotal moment to advance a clear agenda for change or reconciliation in the Middle East.
