WHO, Pakistan Join Forces To Boost Universal Health Coverage

The World Health Organization (WHO) has pledged its support to Pakistan’s Universal Health Coverage Program, formalizing the commitment with a memorandum of understanding signed on Monday. According to Radio Pakistan, the WHO will contribute by supplying essential medical equipment, ambulances, and aid in refurbishing health care facilities. This includes both primary and secondary health care centers and the introduction of mobile health units.

The collaboration is expected to substantially improve health care access and quality, targeting over 90% of the country’s primary health care establishments. WHO Representative in Pakistan Dr. Palitha Gunarathna Mahipala emphasized the crucial role of health care workers in reinforcing community and health system resilience. Dr. Mahipala, in statements shared via WHO Pakistan’s official social media account, stated that bolstering health care worker capacity is a key objective of the WHO’s support in Pakistan.
