Cyclists Aim to Reach ‘Roof of the World’ in Pakistan Race

One of the world’s highest-altitude cycling competitions recently took place in Pakistan. More than 70 Pakistani and foreign cyclists participated in the Tour de Khunjerab 2019 in Pakistan’s northern Gilgit-Baltistan region. The three-day race saw cyclists attempt to reach the “roof of the world.” Beginning at 1,500 meters above sea level, cyclists biked for hundreds of kilometers to reach the finish line nearly 5,000 meters above sea level. Fewer than half of the participants completed the race within the allotted time.
