Eros – Eye’s Walk Digital Festival in Tehran

”Eros” is an artistic exchange project between Eye’s Walk Digital Festival and Paadmaan projects.

It will be held on Friday, January 10, from 5 to 8 pm, at the Blackbox Artcenter, Iranshahr Street 197 in Tehran.

We, Eye’s Walk digital festival and Paadmaan Projects, believe that modern society is mainly determined by denial, confrontation and differences.

Our position is affirmative, constructive. Eye’s Walk Digital festival is inspired by the works of Meleager of Gadara, a first-century BC poet.

“Bird-lime your kiss, Timarion,

your eyes are fire!

If you look at me-you burn,

If you touch

You have caught me fast”*

Meleager of Gadara, first-century BC, Greek Anthology V, 96**

We acknowledge the Eros and the thrill it causes as an opening to life and to society. The Eros is a shared communion. When it comes out, it rushes loudly in all ways and it is always revealing.

Under the title “Eros,” we aim to initiate an artistic dialogue among artists from Greece, Iran, Ireland, Germany and USA. First part is in Tehran and second part is in Athens.

We believe it is time for everyone to express themselves.

Because Eros is an act where words have power to change people, is an act of joining, of sharing, an act before death and while we are still alive.

The project focuses on fostering the “osmosis” between artists from different backgrounds and communities. By casting light on common and important issues we challenge the international dialogue between people and ideas.

*We thank Mr. Standis Apostolidis for the English translation.

**Meleager, (born Gadara [now Umm Qais, Jordan]), Greek poet who compiled the first large anthology of epigrams, known as the Garland, which was the basis for the Greek Anthology.

Meleager’s own poems are neatly constructed and they treat amorous themes with cleverness; they had a considerable influence on the epigrams written during the time of the Roman Empire. He lived in Tyre and, in old age, on the Aegean island of Cos [Encyclopedia Britannica].
