Mauritanian Climate Action Week

Mauritanian Climate Action Week

Climate change is the defining issue of our time, and we are at a turning point, to change course and prevent disasters such as those recently experienced by Australia, the US, island countries, and the Sahel states. This is a direct existential threat and our salvation can only come from an ethical and civic campaign to prevent world leaders from compromising efforts to preserve the planet. Resistance from governments compromises the goals set by the Paris Accord to limit the effects of global warming. With ethics and solidarity with future generations, we must preserve the planet.

The RIM Youth Climate Movement is part of this dynamic by organizing Mauritanian Climate and Sustainable Development Week, March 4-11, 2020. This week is a space for collaboration and exchange between the various stakeholders in the public and private sectors, civil society, and local authorities around a common objective: to fight against climate change and promote sustainable development by Mauritania.

The week will revolve around a series of events that offer places for discussion on national climate policies, on endogenous adaptation mechanisms, but also on the solutions and innovations to be implemented countrywide.

This unique initiative aims to raise awareness and mobilize citizens to create the ecological transition needed to face desertification, the degradation of our soil, the rise in the sea level, the acidification of our oceans, and the pollution of our cities. Thus we will have: a Climate Camp bringing together young people from all the regions of the country, a green expo, interactive climate simulations, school greening; beach cleanup; Women 4 Climate events; training of civil society and the media on climate issues; and a special “Klim’@rt” show.
