Pakistani Government Blocks Internet in Several Cities
The Pakistan Telecommunication Authority (PTA) has shut down Internet service in the cities of Karachi, Islamabad and Rawalpindi until Tuesday, September 10. The PTA said that this was due to the religious holiday Muḥarram, which marks the first month of the Islamic calendar. Some experts, however, believe that the Pakistani government’s move is geared toward preventing terrorist attacks. Meanwhile, India recently halted Internet service in Kashmir.
