Ultra-Orthodox Israeli Woman Makes History at Riga Marathon

Beatie Deutsch, an Israeli ultra-Orthodox mother of five, recently won the half-marathon race in Riga, Latvia, reportedly becoming the first Haredi woman to win an international athletics competition. Deutsch, 29, finished the 13-mile (21 km) race with a time of 1 hour, 17 minutes, 34 seconds. “So many of you shared stories of your families that had perished in Riga, and it felt truly incredible to be running through the streets as a proud Jewish woman.” Deutsch wrote on her Facebook page after the race.
