UN Bodies Hold Iraqi Workshop on Oil Spills and Their Cleanup
The United Nations Environment Program (UNEP), in collaboration with the UN Assistance Mission for Iraq, conducted a September 23-26 workshop addressing the cleanup of oil spills. It was hosted at the headquarters of the North Oil Company in the historic Baba Gurgur oil field, where the first Iraqi crude was discovered in 1927. Twenty-nine experts from government ministries and national oil companies from across Iraq took part in the workshop, which examined a broad spectrum of techniques to remedy oil pollution.
