Unconflicting Desires on Screen: F. Shariat in conversation with L. Mukhida

Unconflicting Desires on Screen: F. Shariat in conversation with L. Mukhida

Thu, Jan 27, 2022 5:00 PM - 7:00 PM Greenwich Mean Time (UTC±0)

Register here.

In this session Faraz Shariat, director of the 2020 film, NO HARD FEELINGS, will be in conversation with film scholar Leila Mukhida.

About this event

Shariat’s film vividly and dreamily tells the story of Iranian-German Parvis encountering and falling in love with Amon, an Iranian migrant whom he meets whilst doing community service at the asylum seekers’ home in his small German hometown. These two young men share a heritage but diverge wildly in the ways that they are permitted to move through the world; in his creative filmmaking practice, Shariat uses formal techniques to imagine other futures in which queer desires and queer communities thrive. The discussion will address this practice, as well as reflect more broadly on Shariat’s work as a producer and the landscape of German cultural production and social justice. Please have a look at Junglinge film collective and the trailer of the film. A link for viewing the film (with English subtitles) will be circulated prior to the event.
