The Australian state of New South Wales on Friday saw restaurants, bars and cafes reopen after a two-month lockdown due to the coronavirus outbreak. New South Wales is Australia’s most populous state and home to Sydney, the country’s most populous city.
Brazil on Thursday reported a daily record 13,944 new coronavirus infections, according to the Health Ministry. As of Friday, the total number of infections in Brazil stood at 203,165, with 13,999 deaths, according to the Johns Hopkins coronavirus tracker.
Australia on Thursday posted its biggest monthly fall in employment since records started being kept in 1978, with the economy shedding 594,300 jobs in April. The unemployment rate rose to 6.2%.
Passenger travel at Dubai’s two international airports dropped in the first quarter of 2020 by 19.8% compared to the same period last year, Dubai Airports, which owns and manages the facilities, said on Thursday.

Thailand on Thursday reported a new coronavirus case but no new deaths, bringing the total to 3,018 cases since the outbreak in the country began in January. Fifty-six people have died.
Wisconsin’s Supreme Court on Wednesday struck down the state’s stay-at-home order by a 4-3 decision. The court ruled that Democratic Gov. Tony Evers’s administration overstepped its authority by extending the order to May 26.
New Mexico Gov. Michelle Lujan Grisham on Wednesday announced that all state residents will be required to wear masks starting Saturday in public spaces, both indoors and outdoors. People exercising outdoors are exempt.
