3 Qatari Diplomats Killed in Car Accident en Route to Gaza Ceasefire Event
Three Qatari diplomats were killed and two others injured in a road accident near Sharm El Sheikh, Egypt, while traveling to attend a ceremony marking the Gaza ceasefire agreement, according to local and Qatari media.
Egypt’s Al Qahera Al Ekhbariya reported that the accident occurred about 50 kilometers from Sharm El Sheikh and involved a vehicle in a convoy accompanying Qatari Prime Minister Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani. The car, carrying five Qatari citizens and an Egyptian driver, reportedly experienced a steering malfunction. Egyptian authorities at the scene promptly notified the Qatari Foreign Ministry and the country’s embassy in Cairo.
Qatar’s Foreign Ministry confirmed the deaths of Saoud bin Thamer Al Thani, Abdullah Ghanem Al-Hayarin, and Hassan Jaber Al-Jaber. The injured diplomats—Abdullah Issa Al-Kuwari and Mohammed Abdul Aziz Al-Bouainin—are receiving treatment in Sharm El Sheikh and are expected to be flown to Qatar, along with the deceased, aboard a state aircraft.

The Qatari Embassy in Egypt issued a statement expressing “deep sorrow” over the deaths of the three staff members, who were part of the Emir’s office. “Two additional diplomats are receiving treatment at a hospital in the city, and the bodies of those killed will later be transferred to Doha,” the embassy wrote on X.
Sources speaking to the Qatari network Al-Araby al-Jadeed described the incident as “very sensitive” and confirmed that an investigation is underway. The Associated Press, citing medical sources, reported that the diplomats had been traveling to Sharm El Sheikh to participate in the upcoming celebration of the ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas.
The tragedy has drawn condolences from Egyptian officials and triggered discussions between Cairo and Doha on the handling of the investigation. The Qatari delegation had been in Egypt as part of ongoing diplomatic efforts related to the ceasefire talks.
