Israel Strikes Hamas Targets in Gaza After Rocket Fired on Civilians
Israeli fighter planes and helicopters struck Hamas targets in Gaza early Sunday morning in response to rockets fired from Gaza into southern Israel on Saturday night.
The airstrikes targeted an underground rocket production workshops, a military training facility, a military camp with a site for storing weapons and a terrorist tunnel, the IDF said in a statement.
“The IDF will not accept a situation in which terrorist organizations act against the Israeli home front,” it said.
Sirens went off in Gaza border communities in southern Israel on Saturday night. The Iron Dome rocket defense system intercepted at least one rocket fired from Gaza headed for a civilian area. It was the second rocket fired at southern Israel in 24 hours. A rocket was fired from Gaza on Friday night, said to be in response to the capture of two of the escaped Palestinian security prisoners from a high-security prison in northern Israel.
One Israeli man was injured on Saturday night while running to a bomb shelter.
