Israeli Airstrikes Devastate Hezbollah Strongholds in Beirut

Israeli airstrikes on Sunday morning rocked the southern suburbs of Beirut for nearly 30 minutes, targeting Hezbollah’s weapons storage and infrastructure, according to the Israeli Defense Forces (IDF). The strikes, which lit up the Lebanese capital with flashes of red and white, were part of Israel’s ongoing military campaign against the Iran-backed group. Before the strikes, the IDF had warned residents in Hezbollah strongholds to evacuate, aiming to minimize civilian casualties.

This comes after a series of escalations on Saturday, when explosions hit the Dahiyeh suburb of Beirut, a Hezbollah stronghold. The IDF confirmed it had targeted Hezbollah command centers and weapons facilities in the area, with six strikes occurring within 20 minutes. Social media videos showed large secondary explosions, indicating that ammunition or explosives were stored at the sites. A fire also broke out at the offices of the Hezbollah-affiliated news outlet Al Manar.

Hezbollah retaliated on Saturday with rocket fire, launching approximately 30 projectiles from Lebanon into northern Israel, where they struck the Kiryat Shmona area. Israeli forces intercepted some of the rockets, while others caused damage on the ground. The clashes are part of a broader regional conflict that has escalated since the killing of Hezbollah leader Hassan Nasrallah in a late September airstrike. His potential successor, Hashem Safieddine, has been missing since an Israeli strike on Friday near Beirut’s international airport.
