Netanyahu Taps Right-Wing Journalist Glick for Senior Advisory Role

Right-wing journalist and commentator Caroline Glick has been appointed as international affairs adviser to Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, according to multiple reports. She has already joined the prime minister’s entourage on his trip to the United States this week, Kan public broadcaster reported.

Glick, a US-born conservative columnist, previously served as an assistant foreign policy adviser to Netanyahu during his first term in the 1990s. In a statement published by the Jewish News Syndicate (JNS), an outlet she has written for, she reflected on her new role:

“Life takes you in different directions, and I am going back to the office where I worked nearly three decades ago as the prime minister leads Israel through the most difficult period in the history of the Jewish state,” she said. “The strategic landscape of the Middle East has been transformed by Israel’s accomplishments in the war, and [this] affords us the opportunity both to expand our circle of ties and prevent Iran from acquiring nuclear capability, which is a requirement for Israel’s survival.”

Glick has been a columnist for The Jerusalem Post, a contributor to US-based far-right outlet Breitbart News, and a senior fellow at the Center for Security Policy. She also ran as a candidate in Naftali Bennett and Ayelet Shaked’s now-defunct New Right party in 2019.

Meanwhile, Netanyahu is reportedly considering appointing Strategic Affairs Minister Ron Dermer as the new head of Israel’s negotiating team for hostage talks with Hamas, replacing Mossad chief David Barnea. Channel 12 reports that Dermer, a former Israeli ambassador to the US and a close ally of Netanyahu, is seen as a better fit for the role due to ongoing discussions with the Trump administration.

Trump’s special envoy, Steve Witkoff, has reportedly expressed a preference for working with Dermer over the current negotiating team, raising speculation that Netanyahu may make changes. However, Netanyahu’s office denied the reports, stating that “decisions on the negotiations will be made only after the prime minister returns from the US.”
