Qatari Envoy in Gaza Strip to Distribute Funds to Impoverished Residents

Qatari envoy is in the Gaza Strip to distribute $5.5 million to impoverished households, with each receiving $100. Media reports indicate that Emadi entered the Hamas-controlled enclave Sunday evening through the Erez Crossing from Israel. The delivery is yet another installment of a $90 million Qatari grant. The Gulf state has been sending $15 million a month since November to cover the salaries of Hamas officials as well as the needs of local residents in hopes of reducing violence along the border. The weekly “March of Return” protests, which began close to a year ago and regularly pit thousands of demonstrators against Israeli troops on the other side of the fence, have left over 200 Palestinians dead and thousands more wounded, according to statistics from the United Nations.
