‘The Present,’ Short Film By British-Palestinian Director, Wins BAFTA

“The Present,” a film by British-Palestinian director Farah Nabulsi that tells the story of a day in the life of a father and daughter in the West Bank, won the award for Best Short Film at the 2021 British Academy of Film and Television Arts (BAFTA) awards.

The awards were given virtually over the weekend.

Nablusi dedicated the award “to the people of Palestine for whom freedom and equality is long, long overdue.”

The film, now streaming on Netflix, was co-written by Nabulsi and Palestinian-American poet and director Hind Shoufani. It also was nominated for an Academy Award, where it will compete against the Israeli short film “White Eye.”
