Two IRGC Officers Killed in Gas Leak Incident at Isfahan Facility
Two members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) were killed in a gas leak incident workshop in Isfahan province, local media reported on Thursday.
Fars news agency, which is indirectly managed by the IRGC, identified the deceased individuals as Lieutenant Colonel Mokhtar Morshedi and Captain Mojtaba Nazari, citing a statement from the IRGC, which the paramilitary group indirectly manages.
The deaths occurred after a “gas leak incident on Wednesday night” at a facility operated by the Guards, although further details were not provided.
The official IRNA news agency earlier reported that the gas leak had injured at least ten more people.
Iran has experienced multiple incidents related to gas leaks that have resulted in fatalities and hospitalizations. A suspected gas leak in northwestern Iran caused an explosion in January of last year, killing six members of the same family.
A similar leak at a factory in Firuzabad led to the hospitalization of over 130 people in June 2022 due to respiratory issues.
The IRGC, founded in 1979 following the Islamic Revolution, is an ideologically driven paramilitary force responsible for protecting Iran’s Islamic system and is directly subservient to the country’s supreme religious leader, Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.
The organization wields significant influence over the country’s military and political landscape and operates independently of the regular armed forces. It plays the main role in funding and training Iran’s regional network of armed proxies.
