US and UAE Deepen Ties Through AI Launch
US President Donald Trump met with United Arab Emirates President Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan on Thursday in Abu Dhabi, reaffirming a deepening strategic alliance between the nations. The two leaders focused on expanding cooperation in energy, defense, artificial intelligence, and industry.
According to Emirati state media, Mohamed spoke about the depth of UAE-US relations, noting that the partnership spans more than 50 years. President Trump praised his counterpart’s leadership, saying ties had strengthened under his guidance. Together, they unveiled what the UAE called the world’s largest artificial intelligence campus outside the US.

Trump’s administration rolled back export restrictions on advanced AI chips, a move the UAE had lobbied for in pursuit of its ambition to become a regional tech powerhouse and diversify its currently oil-heavy economy.
The visit follows President Trump’s earlier stops in Saudi Arabia and Qatar, where he secured a $600 billion investment package from Saudi Arabia—nearly $142 billion of it in weapons—and a $200 billion jet order from Qatar Airways for Boeing aircraft. The Gulf trip also spotlighted tech partnerships, including a $20 billion Saudi investment in AI projects in the US.
President Trump is scheduled to attend an Emirati business roundtable on Friday and then visit Abu Dhabi’s Abrahamic Family House on Friday, a religious complex promoting interfaith harmony, reflecting ties forged through the 2020 Abraham Accords.
