US Pressuring Egypt To Accept Palestinians by Threatening Aid
The US is reportedly pressuring Egypt to accept President Donald Trump’s vision for Gaza’s future, which includes relocating Palestinians to Egypt, according to the London-based Arabic-language news outlet Al-Araby Al-Jadeed. The outlet cited Egyptian sources in Washington who claimed that US officials have warned Cairo it could face restrictions on military aid if it does not align with Trump’s plan.
The Pentagon allegedly signaled to Egyptian military officials that supplies essential for maintenance and spare weapons parts could be withheld if Egypt refuses to cooperate.

That report follows a statement President Trump made to reporters on Monday about how he would respond if Jordan and Egypt refuse to take in Palestinian refugees from Gaza. “If they don’t agree, I would conceivably withhold aid,” he said.
During Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu’s visit to Washington earlier this month, President Trump proposed a plan for the US to take control over Gaza and relocate the enclave’s population to neighboring countries.
On Tuesday, Egypt’s Foreign Ministry announced its intention to present an alternative plan for Gaza that would allow the Palestinian people to “remain in their homeland.” Despite the obvious differences between a plan of that sort and what President Trump has proposed, the Egyptian Foreign Ministry said it was aspiring “to cooperate with the US administration … to achieve a comprehensive and just peace in the region.”
