41 African Migrants Dead After Boat Capsizes Off Yemen’s Coast
Forty-one bodies of African migrants were recovered after their overcrowded boat capsized in the Arabian Sea off eastern Yemen on Monday, a government official said.
Ali Al-Dheeb, director general of the Yemeni Ministry of Health office in Shabwa province, reported that a boat carrying over 200 African migrants overturned in the waters near Shabwa’s coast. Search and rescue teams from Shabwa’s health office and the International Organization for Migration have been working to recover the bodies from the Radhum district’s shores in southeastern Shabwa.

In addition to the fatalities, over 70 survivors managed to reach the district’s coast and received immediate medical care from the rescue teams. Al-Dheeb indicated that the death toll might rise as some migrants remain unaccounted for following the incident.
Despite nearly a decade of conflict in Yemen, migrants continue to risk dangerous sea journeys to the country. These journeys often end in tragedy due to unsafe smuggling boats and extreme weather conditions. Yemen remains a key transit point for thousands of African migrants aiming to reach Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states.
