IDF Counters UN Claims of Famine in Gaza

As the conflict between Israel and Hamas continues into its ninth month, a dispute over the humanitarian situation in Gaza has emerged in international dialogues. While the United Nations has raised alarms about potential shortages and famine in Gaza due to Israel’s military actions, officials from the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) have provided a different perspective, asserting the absence of a famine and emphasizing the availability of substantial aid.

In a briefing, Colonel Elad Goren from the Coordination of Government Activities in the Territories (COGAT) addressed concerns regarding the blockade of humanitarian aid at the Kerem Shalom Crossing. He clarified that Israel is not the cause of supply shortages in Gaza. Instead, he pointed out that logistical challenges within the Palestinian administration are the primary barriers preventing the distribution of the aid that is already in place.

Furthermore, in his conversation with The Media Line’s Nathan Klabin and Dario Sanchez, Major David Baruch of the IDF shed light on how Hamas is manipulating the distribution of aid to gain international sympathy. By controlling the flow of humanitarian supplies, Hamas aims to project an image of victimhood to the international community, thus complicating the crisis.
