Iran, Turkey Strengthen Legal and Judicial Cooperation; Reactivate Extradition Agreement

Iran and Turkey on Tuesday called for the expansion of bilateral legal and judicial relations, according to the official Islamic Republic News Agency.

Relations between Turkey and Iran have remained strong over the years. Despite economic sanctions on Iran, the two countries have maintained trade relations, including the exchange of energy resources, agricultural products, and industrial goods.

Iranian Justice Minister Amir-Hossein Rahimi and Turkish Ambassador to Iran Hicabi Kırlangıç met in Tehran, where they discussed cooperation between the two countries. According to the report, the two officials also called for activating the joint committee for the implementation of the convict extradition agreement between the two nations.

Originally signed in 2014, the agreement allows for the extradition of prisoners as a humanitarian measure.

The Iranian minister added that expanding the ties between Iran and Turkey had always been on the Iranian government’s agenda and that the bilateral relations between the two countries were based on brotherhood and friendship.
