As the Islamic State’s fighting forces were pushed out of territory it had once conquered to be part of its caliphate (state run according to strict Muslim law), more than two hundred mass graves were discovered in its wake according to a United Nations report. In graphic detail, the report details finding remains of women, children, elderly and disabled being discovered in 220 locations. The gruesome discovery boosts the aggregate number of people killed by ISIS, which was already believed to have been more than 33,000. The latest find is estimated to be about 12,000 according to American sources. One grave alone contained 4,000 victims.
