Israel Unveils Next-Generation Merkava Tank With AI Capabilities
Israel’s Defense Ministry introduced its latest Merkava Mark 5 tank, also known as the Barak tank, on Tuesday. The tank integrates artificial intelligence (AI) technologies and electronically controlled weaponry, marking “an exceptional leap forward,” according to Defense Minister Yoav Gallant.
Expected to be operational by the end of 2023, the Barak tank will gradually replace the existing Merkava Mark 4 tanks, the mainstay of Israel’s armored forces. Among its advanced features, the new tank is equipped with AI-based image processing, enhanced observation, and scanning capabilities.

Truth and understanding
The Media Line's intrepid correspondents are in Israel, Gaza, Lebanon, Syria and Pakistan providing first-person reporting.
They all said they cover it.
We see it.
We report with just one agenda: the truth.
Tank commanders will have a specialized helmet enabling 360-degree environmental scans, which will facilitate real-time target location without exposing the crew. The tank will also feature multi-touch screens and AI sensors for rapid data collection.
Additionally, the tank will be fitted with the Trophy anti-missile protection system, enhancing its battlefield superiority, the military stated.
