Palestinian wanted by Israel Found Dead in Sofia

Omar al-Nayif, 51, a Palestinian man wanted by Israel for the killing of an Israeli 30 years ago, was found dead Friday outside the Palestinian embassy in Bulgaria where he had taken refuge after Israel requested his extradition.

Bulgarian radio reported that he had fallen from the fourth floor.

Al-Nayif’s body was found a day after Prime Minister Boyko Borissov concluded a two day visit to Israel.

Palestinian president Mahmoud Abbas announced that he was establishing a committee to investigate al-Nayif’s “assassination, as it was termed by the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine (PFLP), of which al-Nayif was a member, but his brother, Ahmad al-Nayif told the Palestinian news agency Ma’an that “my brother was being directly and indirectly threatened by some individuals at the embassy — especially the ambassador — who demanded him to leave the embassy where he was taking cover after being threatened by Mossad,” Israel’s vaunted intelligence agency.
