Trump Floats Gaza Takeover, Palestinians and Allies Reject Plan
In my latest article for The Media Line, I examine US President Donald Trump’s controversial proposal to take control of Gaza, remove its Palestinian population, and redevelop the area into what he calls the “Riviera of the Middle East.” Announced at a press conference alongside Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, President Trump’s vision has sparked international backlash, with critics warning that forced displacement violates international law and could inflame regional tensions.
The president, a former real estate developer, framed his plan as an economic opportunity, suggesting that Gaza’s coastline could become a luxury destination. While Netanyahu welcomed President Trump’s “outside-the-box thinking,” leaders across the Middle East and beyond swiftly rejected the proposal. Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Turkey, and China have all condemned the idea, reaffirming their support for Palestinian sovereignty. Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called the American president’s plan a “serious violation of international law,” while Hamas labeled it “absurd.”

Adding to the controversy, the US commander-in-chief did not rule out deploying American troops to Gaza, stating that “we’ll do what is necessary” to secure the territory. His remarks also come at a sensitive time, as Israel and Hamas prepare for the next phase of ceasefire negotiations, which could determine the fate of hostages still held in Gaza.
With mounting global criticism and uncertainty surrounding how such a takeover would work, President Trump’s plan has injected new volatility into an already fragile region. To read more about the implications of this unprecedented proposal, read my full article at The Media Line.
