Tunis and Cairo Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties at Bilateral Trade Committee Meeting

Tunis and Cairo Discuss Strengthening Economic Ties at Bilateral Trade Committee Meeting

Tunisian Prime Minister Sarra Zaafrani Zenzri and Egyptian Minister of Investment and Foreign Trade Hassan El Khatib met Wednesday in Tunis to discuss strategies for strengthening economic and trade cooperation between their countries. The talks were held on the sidelines of the sixth session of the Tunisian-Egyptian Joint Trade and Industrial Committee.

Tunisian Minister of Trade and Export Development Samir Abid and Egypt’s Ambassador to Tunisia Bassem Yahya Hassan also attended the meeting, which was confirmed in an official government statement.

Zenzri praised the growing momentum in ties between Tunisia and Egypt and urged officials to intensify preparations for the upcoming 18th session of the Tunisian-Egyptian Joint High Committee, set to take place in Cairo. She called for “practical and swift solutions” to existing challenges in order to boost commercial activity.

Both delegations reiterated their countries’ commitment to a stronger economic partnership focused on mutual benefit and access to wider African markets through preferential trade agreements. The emphasis was on turning political goodwill into concrete outcomes in trade, investment, and regional integration.

The Tunisian-Egyptian Joint High Committee, launched in the 1980s, has served as the primary mechanism for coordinating bilateral cooperation across sectors, including energy, education, tourism, and agriculture.

As North African neighbors with shared strategic interests, Tunisia and Egypt have increasingly considered economic collaboration as a foundation for long-term stability and growth.
