Turkey’s Average Household Size Shrinks, Age of First-Time Mothers Rises
The average household size in Turkey has declined over the past eight years, according to statistics released by the Turkish Statistical Institute (TÜİK) on Wednesday. The data shows a decrease in the proportion of families with more than two people, from 66.9% in 2015 to 63.8% in 2023. Conversely, the number of single-person households has risen from 14.4% in 2015 to 19.7% in 2023.

The statistics also reveal an increase in the average age of Turkish mothers giving birth for the first time. In 2001, the average age was 26.7; in 2023, it had risen to 29.2.
Turkey’s population currently stands at over 85 million, with an annual growth rate of 0.11%.
